No Saturday is complete without a walk through a French marche. From produce to fresh cheese to meat and fish, a French marche, or market, is a culinary delight and a photographer’s dream. Getting fresh things to eat is often a highlight of my weekend, and although my wallet suffers when I indulge in specialty cheeses and other yummies, it’s worth it.
Sometimes friends and family ask me what French grocery stores are like and if they compare to the American ones they know from home. Well, in a word, yes — French grocery stores are similar to supermarkets in the U.S. except if you look closely enough, you’ll find a bunch of foods that don’t exist in the U.S. Here, I’ll take a look at the best and worst of them.
While most of you are probably off from work and barbecuing this 4th of July, it’s just another day in France. So for our own little holiday weekend, Tom and I drove to Paris to celebrate the 4th of July — but a little early. We didn’t do anything too patriotic, but we did enjoy ourselves in a city that seems to keep on getting better and better.
