Quirks you notice about your French husband

For anyone out there who might be a new reader here, my husband is French. His name is Tom and he’s lived in France his entire life. Although he has a French passport, I surprisingly don’t think of him as French. What do I mean by that? Just that I don’t think of him as “the French dude I married.” He speaks perfect English, gets American culture, enjoys American shows and just fits in with everyone back home. He’s not a foreigner in my mind. I just think of him as Tom and not any different than me. Over the years, I think I’ve Americanized him and he’s always had an interest in learning English, watching American TV shows and visiting my homeland — Tom is more like a regular ol’ American with a funny accent. But, and then of course there’s a but, a little quirk emerges that clearly crosses him over into French territory.

Schooled on my bisous technique

It’s only natural to feel a little embarrassed when someone points out a mistake you’ve been making. Whether it’s an error you’ve been making at work or in your personal life, you can’t help but get a little red-faced. But something as simple as French cheek kisses? How hard can they be? Well, they’re more complicated than they seem. For the past 4 years or so, I thought I was doing a pretty OK job when it came to cheek kisses. I did my best to lean in, tap both cheeks, and I even made the little sound. But after a routine bise last night with someone at the gym, I was politely told my bisous technique was off. Ouch.

Hi guys! One thing I learned from my reader survey is that almost 50 percent of respondents have only been reading my blog a couple of months or less, so to unbury some of my posts from the early days (2012-13) that you might find useful, I’m dedicating a whole post to the oldies but goodies you may have missed on this sunny Friday!
