River cruising continues in St. Émilion: History, wine and a killer view

chateau-soutard-wine With no shortage of picturesque towns, our river cruise aboard the Uniworld River Royale continued on to St. Émilion, France, a town with prehistoric roots and a rich architectural heritage. With a population of just over 2,000 people, St. Émilion is situated about 22 miles northeast of Bordeaux and is a must-see for any wine aficionado. And if you’re not big on wine? Go anyway! The narrow cobblestone streets are lined with welcoming wine shops, the town is also knows for its special almond-flavored macarons and the view is worth a trip of its own! What’s not to love?

iphone-weather-forecast-angers-france Dagny had a smile plastered all over her face this past weekend and I wasn’t far behind. This weekend was the nicest weekend I think I’ve ever experienced in France. Maybe all the nonstop rain is clouding my memory but really wow, it was gorgeous. The 60-65 F temps and sun was a welcome change and my phone has never EVER shown a forecast like this. Am I dreaming? Let’s hope this is a sign of a gorgeous spring ahead.

photo(23) Ever visit a place and fall in love with it right off the bat? Maybe you can’t put your finger on why you like it so much or maybe it’s the food, landscape or the people that make a place special or the memories you have there, but whatever it is, you always find yourself wanting to go back. For me, that place is the Brittany region of France and luckily for us, it’s just a couple of hours away. For the Christmas week, we’re up near Lannion, France, just relaxing (like Dagny there in the pic above) and spending time with family. I hope everyone reading this had a wonderful Christmas.
